Himesh Reshammiya was born on 23 July 1973 in Mumbai, the son of the music composer Vipin Reshammiya. He is a music composer, singer and actor, and one of the most commercially successful composers in Hindi cinema in the 2000s.
He began in television, producing Zee TV series such as Andaz and Aashiqui and composing title tracks for some of them. His film breakthrough came with Humraaz (2002), for which he earned a Filmfare nomination for Best Music Director, and with Tere Naam (2003), whose songs won him the Zee Cine and Screen awards for Best Music Director. He later composed Aksar (2006) and Karzzzz (2008), and sang “Aashiq Banaya Aapne” (2005).
He also became a singer with a heavily nasal style. His album Aap Kaa Surroor (2006) sold about 1.3 million units, and he used it to launch an acting career with the film of the same name in 2007. He later acted in The Xpose (2014).
He has been a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and on Indian Idol, where he joined the panel for season 11 in December 2019 and returned for seasons 12 and 13.
His career has had both peaks and critical disagreement, but he remains a fixture of the Hindi music industry.
