Shreya Ghoshal (born 12 March 1984) is an Indian playback singer and one of the most celebrated female voices in Indian film music. Discovered on a television talent show as a teenager, she made her Bollywood debut singing for Aishwarya Rai in Devdas (2002). She has since recorded thousands of songs in many Indian languages and won five National Film Awards.

Early Life
Shreya was born in Berhampore, West Bengal, and grew up in Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, where her father worked as an engineer at a nuclear power plant. She began training in music at the age of four and later studied Hindustani classical music. At 16 she won the children’s special of the TV show Sa Re Ga Ma. Her performance caught the attention of the mother of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Career
Bhansali chose the teenager to sing for Paro, Aishwarya Rai’s character, in Devdas (2002). Songs such as “Bairi Piya” and “Dola Re Dola” made her an overnight star and won her a National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer.
Over the following two decades Shreya became the leading female playback singer in Hindi cinema. She won more National Awards for songs including “Pherari Mon” (Bengali), “Yeh Ishq Haaye” (Jab We Met) and “Jeev Rangla” (Marathi). She has recorded in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and many other languages. Her hits range from “Teri Ore” and “Sun Raha Hai” to “Manwa Laage”, “Ghoomar” and “Deewani Mastani”.
Shreya has been a judge on major singing shows including Indian Idol and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. In 2010 the Governor of Ohio declared 26 June “Shreya Ghoshal Day”. In 2017 she became the first Indian singer to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Delhi.
Personal Life
Shreya married her childhood friend Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya in 2015 in a traditional Bengali ceremony. The couple welcomed a son in 2021.
