He also appeared in the political drama Raajneeti (2010).
Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar (2011), in which he played a musician consumed by fame and heartbreak, won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The following year he played a deaf and mute man in Anurag Basu’s Barfi! (2012), one of his most acclaimed roles. The coming-of-age romance Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) was a major hit. So was Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016).
Kapoor played the actor Sanjay Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic Sanju (2018), one of the biggest hits of the year. He then led Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy epic Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva (2022) alongside Alia Bhatt, and the romantic comedy Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023).
