The Union Sports Ministry on 16 October 2026 announced revised guidelines under its Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) scheme, under which a federation can receive up to Rs 50 crore to host an international event. The earlier ceiling was Rs 2 crore, The Bridge reported.
What the ministry said
“Now, financial support of up to Rs 50 crore can be provided to NSFs for hosting an international event, depending upon the nature and importance of the event,” the ministry said. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the guidelines.
How funding will be decided
- Results: a federation’s competitive standing, measured by medals and top-10 finishes at the Olympics and World Championships
- Event scale: the number of participating countries and athletes
- Event type: whether it is a World Championship, an Asian Championship or the National Games
What the money covers
The funds can be used for coaching camps, athlete development, foreign coaches, international competitions, national championships, grassroots programmes and administrative governance.
The larger plan
The Bridge linked the changes to India’s bid for the 2036 Olympics and preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad. The ministry also plans Olympic Training Centres with modern facilities so athletes depend less on training abroad.
Details are as reported by The Bridge from the ministry’s guidelines.
