Sania Mirza (born 15 November 1986) is an Indian former professional tennis player and the most successful Indian woman in the sport. She won six Grand Slam titles, three in women’s doubles and three in mixed doubles. She became the world number one in women’s doubles in 2015 and was the first Indian woman to win a WTA singles title.

Early Life
Sania Mirza was born in Mumbai and grew up in Hyderabad. She began playing tennis at six, coached by her father, Imran Mirza. In 2003 she won the Wimbledon girls’ doubles title.
Career
In 2005 Mirza won her home tournament, the Hyderabad Open, becoming the first Indian woman to win a WTA singles title. She reached the fourth round of the US Open that year and rose to a career-high singles ranking of 27 in 2007. Wrist injuries later led her to focus on doubles.
With Mahesh Bhupathi she won the 2009 Australian Open and the 2012 French Open mixed doubles, and she added the 2014 US Open mixed title with Bruno Soares. Teaming up with Martina Hingis, she won Wimbledon and the US Open in 2015 and the Australian Open in 2016. In April 2015 she became world number one in doubles. She also won medals at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. She retired in February 2023.
Personal Life
In 2010 Mirza married the Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. Their son, Izhaan, was born in 2018, and the couple later divorced. In 2016 Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She remains active as a commentator and mentor for young players.
