The Deal

“Kerala Blasters Football Club confirms that its ownership, Magnum Sports Private Ltd., has entered into a definitive agreement for the 100% sale of Kerala Blasters Football Club,” the club said.

Al Fursan is an investment group with links to the Al Qasimi royal family of Sharjah. The sale will be completed in stages over the course of the season.

Who Runs the Club This Season

The club’s commercial and operational activities this season have been handed to the Kerala-based Offioh Sporty India Private Limited, said the Blasters’ chief executive, Abhik Chatterjee.

Staying in Kochi, for Now

Offioh’s chief executive, Thameem Anwar, said home matches will be played at the Kaloor Stadium, as in every previous season.

The club had disagreements with the Greater Cochin Development Authority, which owns the ground, over rent before last season. Anwar said talks on rent will be held later and that there are “no problems as such for now”.

A New Stadium

Anwar said a new stadium is planned, though he would not say where.

“For the next season, we are actually planning to make a new stadium itself. The stadium that is here doesn’t match up to the standards set by FIFA,” he said.

Why It Matters

The deal marks the return of Gulf investment to the Indian Super League after City Football Group left Mumbai City FC last year.

The Blasters are the second ISL club to change owners before this season. Tata Steel sold Jamshedpur FC to Churchill Brothers for a token Rs 100.
