US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit India from 17 to 22 October 2026, according to the US State Department. The itinerary includes Mumbai and Jamnagar in Gujarat, which is the site of Reliance Industries’ large refining complex.
The State Department said Rubio will hold talks with senior Indian government officials and meet business leaders about investment and economic ties. The agenda includes strategic relations, regional and global developments, expanded energy cooperation, and the proposed bilateral trade agreement and an interim deal as a step towards a broader pact.
The visit follows Rubio’s trip to India in May, when he met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. No final trade agreement has been announced. Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, Jaishankar said the talks were moving towards a possible “landing point”, but added that the outcome would also depend on the terms Washington offers other competing economies. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said earlier in October that the talks had reached a “plateau”.
The open issues are tariffs, market access for Indian goods and the competitiveness of Indian exports. India has also been trying to protect sensitive sectors such as farming.
The State Department did not name which Indian officials Rubio would meet on this trip, and no meeting dates for individual officials had been confirmed in the sources available when this article was written.
