Udta Teer, a spy comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, is due to be released in theatres on 23 October 2026, according to a search summary of release listings. It was originally scheduled for 9 October and was postponed after the release of Drishyam 3, according to India TV. The new date has been confirmed in listings but IndiaX24 has not seen a statement from the producers.
The premise is a case of mistaken identity. Ayushmann Khurrana plays Bilal, a Pakistani intelligence agent who loses his memory after an explosion and mistakenly believes that he is part of India’s Counter-Terrorism Squad, according to India TV. He works alongside a real officer of the squad, played by Sara Ali Khan, who does not know his true identity, according to the same report.
The film is directed by Akash A Kaushik in his directorial debut, according to India TV. The producers are Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, under the banners of Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, according to the report. The music is composed by Sachin-Jigar with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
The supporting cast is large. It includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe, according to India TV. That is ten supporting names in addition to the two leads, a count by IndiaX24.
The trailer was released on 23 September 2026 and runs for 3 minutes and 18 seconds, according to India TV. The report describes the tone as ‘tod-fod comedy… like never before’, mixing action, humour, chaos and patriotic elements. Adgully described it as a high-energy family entertainer, according to its headline. IndiaX24 has not watched the trailer and reports those descriptions as the outlets’ words.
The date puts the film in a busy window. It follows the week in which Jailer 2, Ranabaali, Prahaar, Raftaar and Nayyi Navelli opened, as IndiaX24 has reported, and it comes before the Diwali releases, including Ramayana, whose date is disputed. The film will have 16 days in theatres before Diwali on 8 November, a count by IndiaX24.
The postponement from 9 October moved it away from Drishyam 3, which opened earlier this month and has passed Rs 500 crore worldwide, as IndiaX24 has reported. Moving a film away from a big hit is a common tactic, which is general background, but the reports reviewed do not give the producers’ reason beyond the sequence of releases.
The film’s star pairing is also a draw. Ayushmann Khurrana has played a range of roles in comedies and social dramas, and Sara Ali Khan plays the Counter-Terrorism Squad officer, according to the cast list, but the reports reviewed do not describe their earlier work together, so IndiaX24 does not say whether they have worked together before.
Dharma Productions is one of the larger Hindi studios, and Sikhya Entertainment, run by Guneet Monga Kapoor, is a smaller production company, according to general background. The partnership of the two on a first-time director’s film is notable, although the reports reviewed do not say how the producers divided the roles.
Reviews and advance bookings will be available closer to the release. IndiaX24 will report on the film’s opening.
