Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 earned Rs 59.70 crore net in India on its opening day, Thursday, 15 October 2026, and Rs 125.25 crore worldwide, according to trade tracker Sacnilk as reported by Outlook, NewsX and DNA India. The film was shown in 16,599 shows across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada versions on the first day.

The worldwide figure is built from two parts. The domestic gross was Rs 70.25 crore and overseas earnings were Rs 55 crore, according to Sacnilk, and the two add up to Rs 125.25 crore. The difference between the net of Rs 59.70 crore and the gross of Rs 70.25 crore is Rs 10.55 crore, which is the amount attributable to taxes, a subtraction by IndiaX24 and an interpretation of how net and gross figures normally differ.

The opening is ranked against others. It is the third-biggest opening-day collection for a Tamil film, behind Rajinikanth’s own Coolie and Vijay’s Leo, according to DNA India. It beat the opening of the original Jailer but fell short of Coolie, according to Outlook. Coolie’s opening was reported as Rs 1.7 billion, or Rs 170 crore, worldwide in a Gulf News headline, which would make Jailer 2’s worldwide figure about 74 per cent of it, a calculation by IndiaX24 that depends on the two trackers’ methods being comparable.

The Tamil version contributed the largest share of the domestic total, according to the report. The reports reviewed do not give the language split in rupees, so IndiaX24 does not state it. The number of shows allows one simple calculation: Rs 59.70 crore across 16,599 shows is about Rs 36,000 net per show, which is IndiaX24’s division and ignores differences in screen size and ticket prices.

A figure of Rs 3.55 crore appeared in one listing as the collection for the second day. That number is far below the first day’s, and it is most likely an early count from the morning of the second day and not a final figure, which is IndiaX24’s reading and which the listing does not confirm. IndiaX24 therefore does not use it and will report the official second-day number when it is available.

Rajinikanth’s film arrived with a lot of build-up. IndiaX24 has reported on Andhra Pradesh allowing higher ticket prices for the release and on Mohanlal’s stylist speaking about three of his looks in the film. A review by Pinkvilla called it a mass celebration, according to its headline, and the reports reviewed do not give a critical consensus.

The release is in the middle of a crowded period. Ranabaali, Raftaar, Prahaar and Nayyi Navelli opened on or around the same days, as IndiaX24 has reported, and Drishyam 3 is still in theatres, so the film is sharing screens. The reports reviewed do not give the screen counts for each.

South Indian cinema has been strong this year. A Lapaas Voice article put the year’s South Indian box-office total at Rs 4,198 crore, but IndiaX24 has not verified the figure or the source’s method, and does not rely on it.

IndiaX24 will report on the film’s first weekend and its progress towards Rs 500 crore.
