Garividi Lakshmi, a Telugu film inspired by the life of the Burrakatha artist Garividi Lakshmi, is due to be released in theatres worldwide on 17 October 2026, according to DT Next, District and 123Telugu. The film is directed by Gowri Naidu Jammu and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad under the People Media Factory banner.
The film follows Lakshmi, a village woman from North Andhra who rises to fame through her extraordinary voice and performances in the male-dominated art of Burrakatha, according to the film’s description. Burrakatha is a traditional storytelling form of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in which a lead performer narrates a story through song and speech with two accompanists, which is general background and not a detail given in the reports.
Kayal Anandhi plays the title role, according to DT Next. The cast also includes Ankith Koyya, Rag Mayur, Nithin Prasanna and Viva Raghava, and Naresh, Raasi and Sharanya Pradeep are in significant roles, with Meesala Laxman, Kancharapalem Kishore and Kushalini in supporting parts, according to District’s listing. The cinematography is by J Aditya and the music by Charan Arjun.
123Telugu described the trailer as showing Anandhi bringing a folk singer’s inspiring journey to life, according to its headline. IndiaX24 has not watched the trailer and does not describe it. A pre-release event was streamed live by a group called Shreyas, according to a search result, which suggests that the producers have promoted the film in the usual way.
The film is described as inspired by Lakshmi’s life and not as a biography. The reports reviewed do not say which incidents are factual and which are invented, or whether Lakshmi, who is the subject, is alive. IndiaX24 therefore treats the story as a dramatisation of a folk artist’s rise.
The release date is the same as for several other titles. Raftaar and Prahaar opened on 16 October, and Jailer 2 on 15 October, as IndiaX24 has reported, so a smaller regional film is releasing alongside large ones. That is a challenge for a film without a major star, although the reports reviewed do not give advance bookings or the number of screens.
People Media Factory is a Hyderabad-based production house, which is general background. The reports reviewed do not give the film’s budget, runtime or censor certificate, so IndiaX24 does not state them.
OTT rights are listed on FilmiBeat’s page for the film, but the page’s details were not available to IndiaX24, so it cannot say which platform will stream it or when.
Reviews were not available at the time of writing because the film had not yet released. IndiaX24 will report on its reception and first-weekend collections.
The title character belongs to a tradition in which the performer is traditionally the storyteller and the music carries the narrative, so the film will depend heavily on its songs. Charan Arjun is credited with the music, according to the listing, and the reports reviewed do not give the number of songs or the singers, so IndiaX24 does not describe the soundtrack.
The film is another example of a regional story told through a folk art form, and its success will depend on word of mouth. IndiaX24 will follow its progress.
