Malayalam breakthrough
His debut, Second Show (2012), a gangster film with a first-time director and an unknown cast, was a modest success. Ustad Hotel, later the same year, in which he played a young man who learns the meaning of cooking from his grandfather, made him a star. The ensemble hit Bangalore Days (2014) followed, and for Charlie (2015), as a free-spirited wanderer, he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. Kali and Rajeev Ravi’s Kammatipaadam (2016) showed a harder edge.

Mani Ratnam cast him in the Tamil romance O Kadhal Kanmani (2015), opposite Nithya Menen. In Telugu he played the actor Gemini Ganesan in Mahanati (2018). He made his Hindi debut the same year in Karwaan, with Irrfan Khan, and later appeared in The Zoya Factor, R. Balki’s Chup and the Netflix series Guns & Gulaabs.
The Telugu period romance Sita Ramam (2022), in which he played an army lieutenant who receives letters from an unknown woman, was a success across India. Lucky Baskhar (2024), about a bank cashier drawn into financial fraud, was another Telugu hit, and he played a film star of 1950s Madras in the Tamil drama Kaantha (2025).
Producer
He founded Wayfarer Films in 2019. It produced Kurup (2021), in which he played a notorious real-life fugitive and which was one of the biggest Malayalam hits after the pandemic. The costly gangster film King of Kotha (2023) failed. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (2025), a superhero fantasy led by Kalyani Priyadarshan, earned about three hundred crore rupees and became the highest-grossing Malayalam film.
His releases in 2026 include the Malayalam film I’m Game.
