Jio Platforms allotted 7.24 crore shares worth Rs 8,109.85 crore to 212 anchor investors on October 19, 2026, at Rs 1,119, the top of the price band, after receiving bids worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore, ThePrint reported. That is more than 30 times the amount available in the anchor book, and the anchor portion is about 27 percent of the Rs 30,213 crore offer. The five largest investors were Life Insurance Corporation of India with Rs 499.98 crore, or 6.17 percent of the anchor book, New World Fund Inc with Rs 486.27 crore, the Government of Singapore with Rs 340.93 crore, SBI Focused Fund with Rs 315 crore and BNP Paribas Financial Markets with Rs 303.25 crore. The public offer opened on October 21 and closes on October 23.

The case that the anchor book is a strong signal of confidence is made by its size and its price. Bids worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore for a book of Rs 8,109.85 crore means that investors wanted far more than they could be given, and all the allotments were made at Rs 1,119, with no discount to the upper end of the range. Domestic mutual funds took Rs 2,784.96 crore, or 34.34 percent, and life insurers and pension funds took Rs 1,089.95 crore, or 13.44 percent, so almost half of the anchor money came from long-term Indian institutions. The presence of a sovereign fund from Singapore and a large US-based fund shows that foreign institutions with long holding periods also participated. The company is valued at around 108 billion dollars, according to the report.

The case for caution is that anchor demand does not always carry through to the public offer, and bids are not the same as money invested. Anchor investors are asked for large orders that are cut back sharply, so a bid of Rs 2.5 lakh crore reflects the way the book is built as much as true appetite, and the public offer was only at 1.40 times by midday on its first day. The five biggest names account for about Rs 1,945 crore of the Rs 8,109.85 crore, so the book is spread across 212 investors, but a single large category such as mutual funds supplies over a third of it, which concentrates the risk if market sentiment turns.

The result matters because an anchor book of this quality sets expectations for the whole issue and for the market. If the public offer ends with strong demand and a healthy listing on October 28, it will open the door for other large companies to raise money, and if it falters it will show the limits of liquidity. For LIC, the biggest single anchor, the commitment of Rs 499.98 crore is a visible bet on the issue. For the market, a book of 212 investors shows the depth of domestic and foreign institutional money available for a large issue.

The anchor book was a record in demand and a solid base for the offer. The public subscription and the listing will show how much of that confidence carries over.
