Goldman Sachs sold 53,37,584 shares of Eternal, the parent of Zomato and Blinkit, at Rs 316 each for a total of Rs 168.67 crore through a block deal on Thursday, 15 October 2026, and BofA Securities bought the same number of shares, according to Entrackr, Inc42 and TradingView. The shares represent about 0.05 per cent of Eternal’s paid-up equity, according to Entrackr.
The price of Rs 316 was a discount of more than 2.6 per cent to the stock’s previous close, according to the reports, which implies that the previous close was about Rs 324.5, a figure that IndiaX24 has calculated and that the reports reviewed do not state. Eternal’s shares rose 2.22 per cent to close at Rs 323 on the National Stock Exchange the same day, according to Whalesbook, which also gives a market capitalisation of Rs 3,11,947 crore.
The deal is small compared with the company’s size. A sale of Rs 168.67 crore is about 0.054 per cent of a market capitalisation of Rs 3,11,947 crore, which is IndiaX24’s calculation and is consistent with the 0.05 per cent stake in the reports.
It is the second block deal in Eternal in about two months. In early September, BNP Paribas Financial Markets and Millennium Management affiliates sold more than 9.9 crore shares for about Rs 3,264.8 crore, according to Inc42, and Entrackr describes that sale as being in August. The two reports differ on the month, and IndiaX24 reports both. The September block was about 19 times the value of the latest one, a ratio that IndiaX24 has calculated.
A block deal is a large trade between institutions, executed in a special window on the stock exchanges, which is general background and not part of the reports. A seller in a block deal usually accepts a price below the market price, which explains the discount of 2.6 per cent, although the reports reviewed do not give Goldman Sachs’s reasons for selling.
The earlier September block was much larger, and the contrast shows how block sizes vary. If the September sellers sold 9.9 crore shares for Rs 3,264.8 crore, the average price was about Rs 330 a share, a calculation by IndiaX24 from the two figures, which is slightly above the Rs 316 at which Goldman Sachs sold on 15 October. That suggests the stock has traded in a fairly narrow range between the two dates, although the reports reviewed do not give the price history.
Block deals are reported to the exchanges, and they do not usually reveal the seller’s motives. Goldman Sachs may have been selling for its own account or for clients, and the reports reviewed do not say which. BofA Securities may also have been buying for clients, so the final holder of the shares is not known.
Eternal operates Zomato’s food delivery business and Blinkit’s quick commerce platform, which competes with Swiggy Instamart and Zepto, according to Entrackr. The reports reviewed do not give Eternal’s results for the latest quarter or any news from the company that could explain the trades.
IndiaX24 will report on Eternal’s quarterly results when they are announced.
