Reliance Jio used India Mobile Congress 2026, held at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, to show an AI voice agent built into its network and a radio designed for both 5G and future 6G, according to coverage by Telecom Unpacked and BW Businessworld. The event brought together telecom operators, equipment makers and technology companies under the theme Scale Without Boundaries, and the government reported more than 2,000 use cases and more than 400 startups. Coverage gives the dates as 7 to 10 October, although one report refers to 7 and 8 October.

Jio’s Call Agent is a native AI voice agent that lets customers use the service during a phone call without a separate app. The company said that it is designed to work across Indian languages and operates with user consent, according to the reports. The company’s demonstration did not come with a launch date or a price in the sources reviewed, so it is not known when customers will be able to use it.

The company also displayed a Giga MIMO Radio alongside a common baseband unit, designed to support both 5G and future 6G development. Jio said that it is developing its own pre-6G technology, and that it has filed patents in the pre-6G area. It has separately said that it is working on an indigenous satellite technology stack, according to the reports.

Telecom Unpacked reports the company’s claims of more than 8,000 patents and 934 contributions to standards. The article adds that these figures do not predict how much influence the company will have on 6G, because standards are decided in international bodies in which many companies take part. IndiaX24 reports the numbers as the company’s claims and has not verified them.

The distinction between a demonstration and a service is the main point of the coverage. Telecom Unpacked notes that many announcements at the event were prototypes or research projects, and it separates deployed services from development-stage projects. A voice agent shown at an exhibition has not been tested at the scale of Jio’s customer base, and a radio that supports pre-6G is a laboratory and field-trial product, not a network that customers use.

The AI-native network theme was shared by the other operators. Business Standard’s headline says that 6G and AI-native networks took centre stage, and BW Businessworld’s headline says the event began with 6G and AI in focus. IndiaX24 reports on Airtel, Vodafone Idea and BSNL’s announcements in a separate article.

India had 1.31 billion wireless subscribers in August 2026, according to TRAI data that IndiaX24 has reported, and 5G fixed wireless access reached 13.45 million connections. A feature that works across Indian languages inside the network could reach a very large base if it were launched, but the sources reviewed do not describe a commercial plan.

Questions remain. The sources reviewed do not say how the Call Agent handles privacy when it takes part in a call, what consent screen a user sees, or whether it will be offered free. They do not say whether the voice agent works on all phones or only on selected devices, and they do not give the cost of the Giga MIMO Radio.

IndiaX24 will report when Jio announces a launch date or a price for the Call Agent.
