India finished fourth at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with 85 medals: 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. India was level with Uzbekistan on 21 gold medals, and its 27 silver medals, against Uzbekistan’s 25, gave it the higher place, according to Outlook India. The Games ran from 19 September to 4 October. It was India’s second-best Asian Games tally, behind its record 107 medals at the Hangzhou edition held in 2023.
India sent 495 athletes in 36 sports. Manu Bhaker and Pawan Sehrawat carried the flag at the opening ceremony and shooter Neeru Dhanda at the closing ceremony. Several of them were firsts. The women’s cricket team retained its title and won India’s first gold of the Games. Kamaljeet Sahlot and Suruchi Singh set an Asian record in the mixed 10 m air pistol team event, India’s first gold in it. Neeru Dhanda became the first Indian woman to win trap shooting gold, set an Asian record, and won India’s first trap gold in 48 years. Outlook India and other outlets reported that the women’s hockey team beat China 1–0 in the final, for India’s first Asian Games hockey gold in the women’s event in 44 years, and that the men’s cricket team beat Pakistan by 19 runs in the final.
Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav won the mixed team compound archery title, securing India’s first compound archery quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
