The Story

Vijay plays Ranabaali, who comes from the fictional village of Singanamala in Rayalaseema. The trailer follows him from his birth near a mystical cave to his rise as a symbol of resistance, at a time when villagers are driven like slaves to earn a meal.

Rashmika plays Jayamma, a young bride.

Food as a Weapon

Recurring images show how food grain became a political tool. A British officer walks over the grain. Jayamma, entering her marital home, places her foot carefully beside it, not on it.

The Build-Up

The trailer follows a short documentary series, Never Forget, released by the film’s team over recent days. It set out the historical background: the millions of Indian lives lost in the Madras famine.

A Reunion

Ranabaali is the first film Vijay and Rashmika have made together since their wedding early this year. They previously starred together in Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.

It is Vijay’s second film with Rahul Sankrityan, after Taxiwaala in 2018.

The Release

The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and arrives in cinemas a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2.
