Netflix India has announced a 2026 slate of 16 titles, led by Family Business, a series from Hansal Mehta starring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma, and Dhindora 2, a sequel coming six years after the original, with Bhuvan Bam credited. The list also includes Musafir Cafe, which stars Vikrant Massey, new seasons of Mismatched (Season 4), Maamla Legal Hai (Season 2) and The Great Indian Kapil Show (Season 5), and titles such as Super Subbu, Hello Bachhon, Legacy, Love, Chumbak, Yeh Dil Sunn Raha Hai, Desi Bling, Talaash: A Mother’s Search, Kartavya and Operation Safed Sagar. Netflix has given a release date for none of them in the announcement, and only Dhindora 2 has the label coming soon.
The argument that the slate is strong is based on its range. It has a series from the filmmaker Hansal Mehta, led by two actors who command attention, Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma, and it has returning series, which have the advantage of an existing audience: Mismatched has reached its fourth season, Maamla Legal Hai its second and the Kapil Show its fifth. It also includes a talk-show season and titles that suggest a mix of formats, which shows that the platform is trying to serve different tastes, and Dhindora is getting a sequel after six years, a sign that older titles have lasting value.
The counter-argument is that a list of names is not a schedule. The announcement gave no release windows beyond the year 2026, and release dates are given only in the sense of coming soon for one title and yet to be announced for Family Business. Several titles on the list are described only by name, with no creator, cast or genre given, so it is not possible to judge them. A slate of 16 titles over a year also includes shows that are not scripted series, such as the Kapil Show, so the count of new scripted series is smaller than 16. Large slates are also often revised, with titles moved or dropped, and the number of series that actually arrive in a given year is usually lower than the number announced.
The slate matters because streaming platforms are now among the main buyers of Indian stories. Netflix’s choices decide which writers, directors and actors get the chance to make long-form work, and the titles that succeed influence what the others commission. For viewers, the presence of Hansal Mehta, Anil Kapoor, Vijay Varma and Vikrant Massey on one list suggests that the platform is betting on actors with a following for serious drama as well as for comedy. For the industry, the return of familiar seasons shows that platforms value loyal audiences.
The 16 titles show what Netflix wants to offer Indian viewers in 2026. Only three of the titles carry a season number: Mismatched, Maamla Legal Hai and The Great Indian Kapil Show. The dates, which are yet to be announced for most of them, will show how much of the slate arrives and when.
