DC, a Tamil-language action thriller, begins streaming on SonyLIV on 16 October 2026 in five languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, according to Wikipedia, NewsBytes and Esquire India. It had its theatrical release worldwide on 7 August 2026 and streamed on Sun NXT from 4 September, according to Wikipedia.

The film is directed by Arun Matheswaran and produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures. It marks the acting debut of the director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who plays the lead, alongside Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, according to Wikipedia. Lokesh is best known as a director.

The story follows Devadas, an outlaw who delivers vigilante justice, and Chandra, an exploited woman, who together wage war against corrupt police officers after tragic deaths, according to Wikipedia. The film draws inspiration from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel Devdas and from the American outlaw story of Bonnie and Clyde. Esquire India describes it as a revenge drama about a rebellious man whose code leads him into conflict after he stands up for a farmer’s family. The two summaries differ in detail, and IndiaX24 reports both.

The film was a commercial success. It crossed Rs 100 crore, or about $10 million, against a budget of Rs 25 crore, which is four times the cost, and it ranked among the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2026, according to Wikipedia. The gross is a multiple of the budget of 4, a calculation by IndiaX24 from the two figures, and it does not account for the share of the money that goes to theatres.

Critics were positive. Wikipedia reports that the film has 92 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes from 13 critics, with an average rating of 7.1 out of 10, and that critics praised the direction, the lead performances, the action choreography and the score by Anirudh Ravichander. Thirteen reviews is a small number, and the percentage should be seen as indicative.

The streaming release comes 70 days after the theatrical release on 7 August, which is IndiaX24’s count of days from 7 August to 16 October. It had already been available on Sun NXT since 4 September, so SonyLIV’s version is a second platform and it carries the dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

DC is one of several South Indian titles streaming on 16 October, according to Esquire India, and IndiaX24 lists the others in a separate article. The Tamil film industry’s other big release of the week is Jailer 2, which opened in theatres on 15 October.

The film’s journey from cinema to streaming is long. It was in theatres from 7 August, available to stream on Sun NXT from 4 September, 28 days later by IndiaX24’s count, and then on SonyLIV from 16 October, 42 days after that. The reports reviewed do not explain the exclusive windows between the two platforms.

The film’s success is relevant to Lokesh Kanagaraj’s career. He is known as a director, and the film’s earnings of more than Rs 100 crore on a budget of Rs 25 crore came with him as an actor and not as the director. The reports reviewed do not say whether he plans to act again.

IndiaX24 will report the film’s streaming performance if viewership data are released.
