Wipro’s consolidated net profit attributable to shareholders fell 1.4 per cent from a year earlier to Rs 3,200.6 crore in the second quarter of FY27, while revenue from operations rose 9.1 per cent to Rs 24,752.7 crore, according to Business Standard and BusinessToday, which reported the results on 15 October 2026. BusinessToday describes the profit as slipping slightly, at about Rs 3,201 crore.
The revenue and profit moved in opposite directions. Revenue growth of 9.1 per cent against a profit decline of 1.4 per cent means that costs rose faster than sales over the year. The reports reviewed do not say what drove the difference, such as wages, one-time charges or currency effects, so IndiaX24 does not give a reason.
The core IT services business was steadier than the headline suggests. IT services revenue was $2.61 billion, flat from the previous quarter and up 0.6 per cent from a year earlier in constant currency, according to the search summary of the company’s results. The operating margin of the IT services segment improved to 16.5 per cent.
The gap between the 9.1 per cent growth in rupee revenue and the 0.6 per cent growth in constant-currency IT services revenue is large. Part of it comes from the rupee’s weakness against the dollar, because a company that bills in dollars reports more rupees when the rupee falls, and part may come from other segments of the business. The reports reviewed do not split the difference, and the explanation of the currency effect is general background, not a statement from Wipro.
For the quarter ending 31 December 2026, Wipro expects revenue from its IT services business to be between $2,571 million and $2,625 million, according to the company’s guidance as reported. That implies sequential growth of between minus 1.5 per cent and plus 0.5 per cent, and the company said that the range is affected by seasonal furloughs. Wipro also pointed to a strong deal pipeline and said that it expects bookings to improve, according to the report.
The midpoint of the guidance range is $2,598 million, which is about 0.5 per cent below the $2.61 billion of the second quarter. That midpoint and its comparison are IndiaX24’s calculation from the published range and the quarter’s revenue.
The result fits a pattern that analysts had expected for large Indian IT companies. A preview from Goodreturns, quoting Kotak Institutional Equities, said to expect a muted quarter for large companies and a better one for mid-sized firms. Tech Mahindra, which reported on the same day, grew revenue 15.6 per cent from a year earlier to Rs 16,180 crore, as IndiaX24 has reported, so the two companies’ results diverged.
Indian IT companies face a mix of demand uncertainty and changes in client spending, and the sector’s shares had fallen ahead of the results. The Nifty IT index rose the most among sector indices on 15 October, according to Business Standard, although the reports reviewed do not say how Wipro’s own shares reacted to its results.
Infosys reports its second-quarter results on 23 October. IndiaX24 will report on the company’s results and its revenue guidance when they are announced.
