Trent, the Tata Group retailer behind Westside and Zudio, reported a 23% rise in standalone revenue from operations to Rs 5,788 crore in the second quarter of FY27, according to its business update on 6 October 2026. The figure compares with Rs 4,724 crore in the same quarter a year earlier, and merchandise sales also grew 23%.
For the first half of FY27 the company reported standalone revenue of Rs 11,454 crore, which is 21% higher than the Rs 9,505 crore in the first half of FY26. The update was a provisional business update and not full results, so profit and margin figures were still to come when the numbers were published.
Expansion was a big part of the story. Zudio, the company’s value fashion chain, crossed the 1,000-store mark, with 17 stores added in the quarter. Westside added 10 stores. Trent’s total network reached 1,342 stores as of 30 September, up by more than 240 stores from 1,101 in September 2025.
The market reacted strongly. Trent’s shares opened at Rs 2,800 on the BSE on 6 October and rose to the 10% upper price band of Rs 2,832.50 in early trade, according to one report, while another said the stock rose about 11% with an intraday high near Rs 2,901 from a previous close of Rs 2,575. One report called it the strongest single-day move in more than two years, and the market capitalisation crossed Rs 1.5 lakh crore. A report on the stock’s gains said the 23% growth beat analyst estimates of 18%.
The reports note a calendar effect. One headline said revenue beat estimates “despite festive shift”, which refers to the timing of the festive season, since the timing of festivals can move sales between quarters. That is a reason why retail companies are generally compared over half-years as well as quarters. Trent’s first-half growth of 21% is below the quarter’s 23%, and the figures imply that first-quarter revenue grew by about 18.5%, from Rs 4,781 crore to Rs 5,666 crore.
The size of the store network helps explain the growth. Trent has been adding stores quickly, particularly for Zudio, its value fashion chain. More stores mean more floor space and customers, but growth also depends on sales from existing stores, which the provisional update does not break out.
The market was less kind to Trent a week later. On 14 October the stock was among the biggest losers on the Nifty, falling 1.08% to Rs 2,939, which shows that the rise in early October has been followed by some profit-taking and by the generally weak market.
There are caveats. A business update is not a profit announcement, so the effect of costs, rents and store openings on earnings is not yet known. The company will report its full second-quarter results later, and analysts will be looking at margins in particular.
Still, the quarter’s numbers show that demand for value fashion has been strong even in a period of rising inflation, and that Trent is continuing to grow its network at a fast pace.
