Tata Consultancy Services reported its results for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 on 8 October. Consolidated revenue was Rs 73,188 crore, up 11.2% from Rs 65,799 crore a year earlier and up 1.3% from Rs 72,275 crore in the previous quarter, according to a summary of the results. Net profit was Rs 13,884 crore, which is 15% higher than Rs 12,075 crore a year earlier and 4% higher than Rs 13,349 crore in the previous quarter.

Reports differ on the exact profit. Most outlets give Rs 13,884 crore, while one report gave Rs 13,934 crore for the same quarter, and another headline described the rise as 0.25%, apparently on a different basis. IndiaX24 uses Rs 13,884 crore, which most sources, including the Business Standard headline, report, and readers should check the company’s exchange filing for the final figure.

Margins were steady. The operating margin was 24% and the net margin was 19%, with one report giving the operating margin more precisely as 23.98% and saying that it missed estimates. Net cash from operations was Rs 14,190 crore, which is 102.2% of net income, a ratio that shows that profits are being converted to cash.

The business wins were substantial. TCS reported a total contract value of $9.6 billion for the quarter. International revenue grew 1.2% sequentially in constant currency, which is a modest rate and a reminder that the year-on-year increase of 11.2% in rupee terms is not the same as growth in constant currency.

Artificial intelligence was the highlight. TCS said annualised revenue from AI services reached $3.1 billion, up from $2.6 billion in the first quarter of FY27, and that it is now more than 10% of total revenue. That is a rise of about $0.5 billion in one quarter, though it should be understood as an annualised run-rate, not the quarter’s actual revenue.

The board declared a second interim dividend of Rs 12 per share for FY27, with a record date of 14 October and a payment date of 30 October. One report said the shares rose after the results, and the Nifty IT index later rose 5.2% on 13 October according to a market report.

Profit grew faster than revenue on both comparisons: net profit rose 15% year on year against revenue growth of 11.2%, and 4% from the previous quarter against revenue growth of 1.3%. That implies that the company kept more of each rupee of revenue as profit, though the margin figures given in the sources, 24% operating and 19% net, are rounded. For the sector, TCS is a bellwether because it is the largest Indian IT services firm and reports first. Infosys is due to announce its second-quarter results on 23 October, and other firms will follow, so the TCS numbers set expectations for the sector. The combination of steady margins, large deals and rising AI revenue explains the positive reaction.

There are limits to what the quarter shows. Sequential growth in constant currency was only 1.2%, and part of the year-on-year increase in rupee terms may reflect the weaker rupee.

In summary, TCS delivered a solid but not spectacular quarter, with strong order wins and a growing AI business supporting its outlook.
